Teach Introductory Class

Overview

The instructor candidate must demonstrate the ability to teach the introductory class to flyers and also demonstrate knowledge of the gear and outfit flyers in the correct size

Pre-requisites

There are no specific minimum pre-requisites to be able to teach the first time flyer, introductory class. It is recommended that people conducting the tuition for participants to fly are at least 16 years of age and have knowledge of the tunnel operating environment. It is typical that instructors will teach their students the classroom portion of the experience for the flyer, but it is also common for non-instructor staff to accomplish this task. You will need a full briefing from a Trainer in order to understand the required information points for every student to understand prior to taking part in a flight session and you will also run through some mock classroom sessions to ensure you are comfortable and familiary with the material.

Objectives

The primary objective is for you to completely understand all aspects of teaching a class of first time customers the information that they will need to know for a safe and successful flight. Understanding what the standards are and what the expectations are for both the flyer and the instructor when inside the tunnel, will allow you to better serve your clients in giving them the information they need and providing them the best possible experience.

Preparation

The best preparation for this skill is for you to first receive the complete briefing from a Trainer which will cover all aspects of what is needed to be included in the classroom briefing session. From here, spend some time listening to seasoned instructors and how they deliver the information to their students and how it might be delivered slightly differently based upon the audience they are presenting to. Once you have an understanding of what the students need to understand, then practice reciting the information for yourself to help you deliver an un-interrupted version that you will use for your students.

The IBA distinguishes between the sport of indoor skydiving (engaged in by patrons with IBA accounts seeking approval of flight skills though the IBA's Flight Progression System) and recreational flying (engaged in by entertainment customers who do not intend to pursue approval of skills). While indoor skydiving is safe for all ages, the inherent risk of the activity is necessarily greater for those engaging in the sport of indoor skydiving, particularly as they progress through more sophisticated maneuvers.
