Level 4 Flight Skills

Overview

An Instructor Level 4 must be a signed off to fly all of the flight skills associated with Flyer Level 4 and Pro in both the Dynamic and Static progressions. Specifically, the individual skills. There is no requirement for Instructors to be able to perform any of the dive pool check boxes.

Pre-requisites

Prior to learning the Level III flight skills, an Instructor training for Level IV skills, must be a competent flyer in all of the belly flying levels and have completed the back flying Level II and all Level III flyer skills. In order to receive approval for this skill on your Instructor chart, you must demonstrate that you can safely and comfortably fly each skill within the Flyer Level IV and Pro Dynamic and Static progression and have received approvals for each.

Objectives

The main objective to completing this skill as part of the Instructor Level IV progression is so that an Instructor is able to demonstrate they have the knowledge to fly each of the skills that they are planning to teach to their students.

Instructors that understand the challenges of learning themselves how to get through the progression are more likely to be able to explain how to overcome the challenges to their students.

Preparation

The best preparation to completing this skill is for Instructors to continue working on their personal flight progression, being proficient at all of the belly flying levels, back flying skills along with the dynamic and static level III skills. Continuing to work on and improve personal flight skills will be an important aspect to developing your instructing skills.

The IBA distinguishes between the sport of indoor skydiving (engaged in by patrons with IBA accounts seeking approval of flight skills though the IBA's Flight Progression System) and recreational flying (engaged in by entertainment customers who do not intend to pursue approval of skills). While indoor skydiving is safe for all ages, the inherent risk of the activity is necessarily greater for those engaging in the sport of indoor skydiving, particularly as they progress through more sophisticated maneuvers.
